Short Term Jobs

Many senior citizens are considering short term jobs as opposed to long term ones. There are temporary job agencies that offer these types of jobs frequently. Short term jobs, also known as temp jobs, are great for older people because they give you the opportunity to try different types of work. You are not held down to one particular job. This can be a lot of fun and gives you the opportunity to meet many new people while learning new skills.

Temp jobs can keep the mind and body flexible because you're not stuck in the same place doing the same thing. Many retailers hire temporary employees during the holiday season because business picks up. You can work as a cashier, customer service representative or even gift wrapper. Other temporary jobs may include clerical and administrative positions. Often when a permanent worker goes on a leave, such as a maternity leave, a temp is hired to take their place until they return.

Sometimes temporary jobs can become permanent. In some cases companies hire temp employees to see how they work out. If they do a good job and fit in well with the company they may be hired on a permanent basis. Make sure to tell your agency or employer whether or not this is something you are interested in. Before searching for any kind of job examining your motivations for doing so is important. If you're in it for the activity and a little extra money, a temp job is perfect. If you need a sustained source of regular income a permanent job may work better.

When searching for short term jobs you will need all the normal job search tools. For example you will need a cover letter that gives a brief introduction to yourself, your skills and what you want out of a job. You should also have a resume that looks professional and details your work and education history. References can also be helpful for every type of job. Even if you end up filling out a basic handwritten application the information on your resume can be helpful. Also, attaching a resume to your application can give you an edge, whether you are seeking a temp job or a permanent one.
