Jobs Area
For retired individuals it is usually not desirable to take a lengthly commute. If you are looking for jobs area local, the first thing to do is pick up a copy of the newspaper. In the Help Wanted section you should find plenty of ads for job openings, and most of them should be local. Circle the jobs that interest you using a bright colored pen or marker, then go down the list and call for more information or apply for the position as directed. You will need to have some basic information about yourself gathered together, so make sure it's ready before you apply.
A good resume is crucial no matter how old you are or what kind of job you're applying for. Your resume should contain your work history, education history, specific skills and any awards or recognition you've received. You should also include a page of references who can be asked about your work habits and history as well. Even if you apply for a job that doesn't require a resume it can show your professionalism. At the least, you can use the information on the resume to fill out the job application.
In some local stores you'll find Help Wanted signs. This is a great way to find a local job. If it is a store where you shop a lot you may be kept up to date about job openings by the staff. Even if you don't see Help Wanted signs or ads in the paper it can't hurt to inquire whether or not local businesses are taking applications. Even if they're not advertising for help they may need it and you may happen to get the perfect job.
Another place to find jobs area local is at the employment commission. Here you will find all kinds of jobs both part and full time. You may even want to register with local temporary agencies. Temp agencies match up applicants with jobs they are qualified for in the area. Some of these jobs are part time, some are full time. Sometimes the temp jobs do become permanent, but for many senior citizens this is not a concern because they are working more for fun than for money. Working is a great way to get out of the house, get exercise, socialize and contribute to society, not to mention make money.
