Jobs After Retirement
There are all kinds of jobs after retirement to consider if you've recently retired or are soon to do so. Once upon a time retirement was thought to be the big send off from the working world. Retired people were expected to languish in sunny locations and sit on park benches all day. Those days are over, and now citizens of retirement age are choosing to work, not just because they need to but because they want to.
Work can be stimulating for the mind and body. It provides an opportunity for personal growth and socialization with others. Many people enjoy what they do, which is important at any age. After retirement, seniors should strive to choose a job they really like doing as opposed to something they dread. There are many areas where senior citizens are readily employed. Retail sales is one, as the work is light duty and the environment is pleasant. Some seniors work as delivery drivers for pharmacies and hospitals. Discount department store employment is also a good choice for seniors because there are a variety of positions potentially available.
For example, in the average department store such Wal-Mart there are a wide variety of merchandise categories such as a full grocery department, apparel, jewelry, health and beauty, home and garden, sporting goods, toys and more. There are opportunities at these stores for greeters, cashiers, stockers, customer service representatives and more. Many of these stores even have restaurants inside of them, which brings us to food service. Food service is a great industry in which the retired population can find employment.
When considering food service as a job choice after retirement, steer clear from teenager dominated fast food joints and look at positions available at schools, hotels and restaurants upscale enough to employ wait staff. If the idea of serving food doesn't appeal to you consider a job in the kitchen preparing food. Food service positions are perfect for retired people who have previous experience in the industry or enjoy cooking. But don't worry -- if cooking isn't your forte there are plenty of other choices. Jobs after retirement are more plentiful than they've ever been, and today's senior citizens are finding it both lucrative and rewarding to work after they retire.
